As banks move to an open plan environment and the role of staff becomes more akin to that of a concierge than a traditional teller, training customer facing staff should become a priority. Training needs to be experiential, and show employees show to execute to standards through practise.
On the product side, we see a lot of training that is focused on the offer: here's the loan, now find a customer to sell it to. Instead, we believe product training should be focused on the customer's needs, with staff taught how to identify and match features to those needs.
Often, there are also shortfalls in Business Acumen. Some of our clients have found problems when their staff don't know how the Banking industry works, and don't have the "Financial Literacy" to read and understand profit and loss statements, or balance sheets.
